
Cathy Gallo, MAS, RN-BC,C.N.A., CDONA, CPHQ, Vice
President of Long-Term Care Standards and Clinical
Services, began her nursing career approximately
20 years ago as a staff/charge nurse in an acute-care
facility. Since that time she has held a variety
of nursing and clinical roles including quality
analyst, nurse manager, director of nursing, assistant
administrator, performance improvement director,
and healthcare consultant. In 2004 Cathy joined
the Saint Barnabas Health Care System Long-Term
Care Division.
As the Vice President of Long-Term Care Standards
and Clinical Services within the largest health
care system in New Jersey, Cathy oversees the development
of the standardization of long-term care policies
and procedures, develops and implements effective
organizational plans in preparation for regulatory
agency surveys and clinical program development,
and implements and monitors performance improvement
initiatives for the Division’s nine nursing
and rehabilitation centers one transitional care
unit, and two assisted living residences. Cathy
established the SBHCS LTC- Educators Committee,
the LTC- Infection Control Committee & the
SBHCS Pressure Ulcer Collaborative Committee & assisted
in the development of the SBHCS Post-Acute Senior
Medical Affairs Committee
Cathy attended Bloomfield College, in New Jersey,
where she earned a bachelor’s of science
degree in Nursing, and Farleigh Dickinson University,
in New Jersey, where she earned a master’s
of science degree in Administrative Science. She
is a Certified Professional of HealthCare Quality
(CPHQ), Certified Director of Nursing in Long-Term
Care (C.D.O.N.A./LTC) and Nurse Administrator Certified
(C.N.A.).
As an advocate for continuing education, Cathy
has contributed to and authored a variety or articles
focusing on pain awareness and infection control,
most recently co-authoring an infection control
awareness article which was featured in the March
2006 edition of Advance for Nurses. She was also
a featured speaker at the Saint Barnabas Health
Care System Antibiotic Offsite and the New Jersey
Department of Health and Senior Services (NJDOHSS)
Antimicrobial Resistance Symposium and New Jersey
Hospice and Palliative Care Association’s
Facility Based Hospice Care Seminar, and an invited
guest on the NJDOHSS Antimicrobial Task Force.
Cathy remains active in the nursing and healthcare
industries through her affiliations with the National
Director of Nurses in Long-Term Care Association,
New Jersey Association for Healthcare Quality,
New Jersey Association of Director of Nursing Administration/Long-Term
Care, and New Jersey Organization of Nurse Executives.
Cathy serves as a Leadership Council Member for
the National Association of Healthcare Quality,
and sat of the Board of Directors of the New Jersey
League for Nursing from 2002-2004. In 2001, the
New Jersey State Nurses Association awarded Cathy
the organization’s CARE Award for Education.
