As the American population grows older, it is dramatically changing
the face of nursing in new and exciting ways — extending the profession
beyond the hospital.
A rewarding career in long-term nursing offers you the promise of myriad
opportunities and challenges in caring for older adults so that they
can live life to its fullest. For you, it will bring professional and
personal fulfillment, knowing that you are truly making a difference

Utilizing your skills as a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse,
you become a valuable member of an extended family of health care professionals.
This progressive team of rehabilitation specialists provides the finest
care for thousands of residents and patients every year in several different
health care settings — long- and short-term care, subacute and
rehabilitative services, special care for ventilator-dependent patients,
head trauma rehabilitation and assisted living.
Our multidisciplinary approach fosters a spirit of camaraderie among
fellow caregivers at our individual facilities, as well as through our
entire network. In working collaboratively to meet the individual needs
of all residents at every level of care, we have one purpose in mind — to
ensure that they are functioning at their greatest capacity and to the
best of their ability.
Our nursing philosophy centers on establishing strong relationships
with our residents. It’s the kind of compassionate, thoughtful
and dignified care they truly deserve. . . at a time when quality of
life means so very much.
At each of Saint Barnabas Health Care System’s nursing and rehabilitation
centers and assisted living facilities, meeting the diverse needs of
residents is the focus of daily care. With more than 1,500 beds, our
facilities feature homelike private and semi-private rooms in a supportive
setting that fosters independence and comfort.
Residents
are offered a full spectrum of services and programs designed to address
their medical, dietetic, therapeutic, recreational, cultural, spiritual
and personal needs. They also enjoy outings and entertainment, pet therapy
and intergenerational programs, as well as a unique “Share Your
Heart: Adopt a Resident” program, which encourages staff and community
members to volunteer their time to offer companionship to a resident
each week.
Our nursing and rehabilitation centers offer a long list of clinical
services that includes IV therapy, tracheotomy
care, pre- and post-surgical recovery, wound care, respiratory care,
enteral therapy, restorative care and pain management.
Our assisted living residence offers comfortable accommodations
for seniors who maintain an independent lifestyle,
but need some assistance with day-to-day living.
How do we know whether we’re doing our job? Our residents let
us know through a structured resident satisfaction program offered at
all our facilities.
Coordination and collaboration. Both are key in today’s long-term
care environment. For that reason, our nurses serve as the driving force
behind providing and managing care that promotes positive outcomes and
enhances independence for our residents.
Strong nursing skills in assessment, planning, educating and documentation
are needed to develop a plan of care for every resident. Communication
among health care professionals across the continuum of care is essential,
particularly when sharing information accurately — and in a timely
manner — benefits our residents in so many ways.
